Aragon has over 50 clubs, ranging from the Bike Club to ethnic club. Each club serves a specific purpose and each is unique.
Clubs about serious topics like the UNICEF club are about helping people and the planet. They are created for a cause that affects many Aragon students.
Junior Michelle Pei, cofounder of the UNICEF club, says “We created it after we learned about the organization and we were motivated to advocate and fund raise on their behalf. We felt it was our time to help out those less fortunate than us in the world and recruit our fellow classmates in the process.”
Beekeeping Club is another club about a serious topic. Senior and cofounder Sandy Frank says, “We started the club to help spread the word about the disappearance of bees. It started out as a joke, but we realized that the club could be something really great and important, so we created it. It is a lot of work to run the club, but I don’t do it because of how it will look for colleges.”
The Garden Club is a club about helping the environment right here at Aragon. Senior and co-club founder Anjana Amirapu says, “I wanted to introduce Aragon to eat organic and locally and help Aragon become more green.” The main purpose of the club is to expose the students to issues with the environment.
For the most part, when a club is created, the founders are doing it because they have an interest in the topic, and not so much for how it will look on their college resumes. Still, many see an opportunity to impress colleges with a very involved club they are in. Nevertheless, clubs give a chance to participate in many different activities that affect people’s lives.
