ADVICE FOR GIRLS
by Paniz Amirnasiri
- Valentine’s Day should be a holiday that celebrates love in all of its forms, so spend this Valentine’s Day bonding with your family. Play your favorite board games, sift through old family photos and reminisce over cherished family videos.
- Spend the day with your friends! Dress up in your favorite clothes and go out to a fancy dinner. Or spend the night in, watching your favorite movies, munching on a nice variety of snack, and playing classic cards games.
- Surrounded by heart-shaped boxes of assorted chocolates and themed Valentine’s Day cards, it is tempting to give in to consumerism. Set up a Secret Valentine with a group of your friends, and exchange gifts such as teddy bears.
- In addition to spreading a warm, delicious aroma around the house, baking results in tasty goodies that you can share with the ones you love. Bake cookies and cupcakes of your favorite flavors, or try out new recipes for unique pastries.
- Spread the love this Valentine’s Day by volunteering somewhere, whether it’s assisting at an animal shelter or contributing to a community clean-up. Or volunteer at an elderly home where you might be treated to adorable love stories!
- Be your own Valentine by treating yourself to a relaxing day in. Fill your bathtub with bath salts and bubble bath, light a number of scented candles and play your favorite music as you take a soothing bath.
ADVICE FOR BOYS
by Sangwon Yun
- You can never go wrong with the magic of Al Green. He has a little something for everybody for nearly any situation, from the sultry to the smooth.
- When purchasing flowers, consider the underlying message associated with different varieties and different colors. A white rose signifies innocence and purity and the red rose is associated with fiery passion, whereas tulips indicate undying love. Interestingly, though, the orange lily is noted to be tied to hatred. Use it wisely.
- Feeling forever alone? Distract yourself. Rent a bundle of Die Hard movies, waste time on 9gag.com, watch House MD or go on a Dan Brown/Isaac Asimov binge.
- Why watch a romantic comedy alone when you can reenact one? Go out after the one that got away (for those to whom this applies) and set your creativity free. But do so at your own bodily risk.
- For the male with an active-lifestyle, have your cake and eat it too. Go pick things up and put them down.
