Song and Fire Series by George Martin
“I’m currently reading Book 3, titled A Storm of Swords, of the series. I don’t usually read fantasy novels, but this is a fun, quick read. George Martin does a good job with character development. Unfortunately, this means the reader becomes extremely disappointed and upset when major characters get killed off (whoops–spoiler alert?).”
Poisoned: The True Story of the Deadly E.Coli Outbreak That Changed the Way Americans Eat by George Martin
“This book is a true story narrative of the Jack in the Box E Coli illness outbreak of 1993. Who knew that early fast food hamburgers were cooked frozen for one minute on each side? Not me! I was also amazed that this outbreak was the basis of the $1 menu as an enticement for customers to return to Jack in the Box. I would recommend the book for folks who might enjoy some insight on how one incident has such far reaching influences for generations to come.”
The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
“Although some might make fun of a 31-year-old male reading about a teen girl, I take pride in supporting a woman’s right to win a post-apocalyptic death match for food. In all seriousness, these books were a great diversion from the other teen writing I normally read, junior history papers.”
