The girls golf team ended its undefeated season at CCS on Oct. 29. They placed ninth out of 11, surrounded by tough competition such as Palo Alto, St. Francis, and Gunn. Junior Kelly Fang was the team’s best scorer, falling one stroke short of qualifying for the NorCal Championships. Freshman Tessa Ulrich finished second for Aragon, eight strokes behind Fang. CCS Honor Coach Guy Oling says, “Qualifying for CCS was our goal and we played quite well on a challenging Carmel course.”
The Lady Dons won the PAL regular season title with an undefeated record of 16-0. Along the way, they defeated opponents such as Mills, Burlingame, and last year’s league champion, San Mateo. Fang says, “[The best moments of the season] were our two wins over San Mateo, because they beat us twice in the last two years.”
In addition to its regular season title, the team landed two of its golfers in the top three at the PAL championships. Junior Valerie Chen shot her personal best, a four over par, to land herself in second place, while Fang shot an eight over par, putting her in third place. Chen says, “During PALs, there wasn’t too much stress for our team because we’d already known we had made it to CCS. It was a really good day, and our team did well.”
For next year, the Dons want to continue winning and playing at the same pace they did this year, especially since none of the players are graduating this year. Oling says, “I can hope for more success in the future. We do have a challenge on the horizon and I know Aragon will step up to that challenge.”
