On Feb. 22, senior Matt Lentz qualified for individual CCS by placing second in the PAL tournament. Lentz wrestled in the CCS tournament on Feb. 28 at Independence High School and went 0-2 in the tournament.
Lentz’s CCS run concluded the boys’ injury-riddled season. The Aragon wrestling team finished with a 2-4 record and a fifth place finish in PALs.
Senior Stuart Purdy, who also competed in the PAL tournament but did not qualify for CCS, says, “The team did well for the amount of brand new members this year. As a team we would have liked to win more, but it was fun being able to wrestle together and cheer each other on.”
“We fell to injuries a lot, but everyone had fun and did their best. I personally wish I could’ve wrestled more, but I hurt myself a lot,” he adds.
Lentz adds, “Our team did not have an ideal season due to injuries, but I believe we all did pretty well and we are all fairly happy with the results.”
Purdy says, “My personal goal was to come back and wrestle after breaking my arm last year. I proved to myself that I could still wrestle and compete and I was pretty proud of myself because of that. It was especially sweet when we competed at dual meets and beat Hillsdale.”
Lentz concludes, “Personally, I did pretty well for the times I was healthy and did wrestle. I had to deal with many of my own injuries but I was about 15-6 going into league finals. I wish I would have been able to avoid some of the injuries I had obtained, but building bonds with all my teammates made everything worthwhile.”
