On April 17, the boys golf team beat the Terra Nova Timberwolves in their last game of the regular season by a score of 238-240 at Pacifica’s Sharp Park Golf Course. The win moved the Dons up to fifth place in the PAL Bay Division.
Sophomore standout Carter Walling was the low scorer between both teams, with a total round score of 39 on the par 36 course. Walling remarks, “[It was] an up-and-down round. I had a couple of good holes here and there, [and] it came out to be pretty solid.”
Second for the Dons was senior team captain Joe Constantino, with a round of 47. Coach Guy Oling says, “Today was a great victory for us. It was a balanced attack. [Walling] was our number-one guy, and [Constantino] played a solid match. It was a two-stroke victory, so that means somebody made a clutch putt or two.”
The main challenge for the Dons was their overall lack of experience with Terra Nova’s home course. Besides Walling, many of the players had played on the course only a few times previously. Sophomore Tyler Lopez says, “This is my first time playing [here], and for the other guys, it’s their second time this season. [Playing the course often] definitely makes it [easier]. You get to know the course better; you know how to play it.”
Since a majority of the team is sophomores, the team looks to be in good shape for next season. Walling says, “We have a lot of guys who have a lot of potential to be good down the road.” In Thursday’s match, five of the six Aragon players were sophomores.
Next up for the Dons is the PAL Championship qualifier, followed by the PAL Championship.
