The Aragon boys soccer team faced off against Capuchino High School in their home match up of the season on Jan. 21 at 3:00 P.M., claiming their fifth victory of the season in the Ocean division of the Peninsula Athletic League behind a final score of 3-1.
At the twenty-minute mark of the first half, senior forward Gio Sazo scored the first of his two goals. At the conclusion of the half, the score stood at 1-0 in favor of the Dons.
A few minutes into the second half, Aragon managed to score their second goal off of a cleverly devised formation with the ball placed on the strong side and another player running down the opposite sideline.
Shortly after, Capuchino would score their only goal from junior forward Emanuel Tirado who managed to guide the ball into the goal and avoid Aragon’s players closing in on him.
Then at the 15-minute mark of the second half, Sazo scored his second goal, outrunning the Capuchino defense approach on both side of him. At the sound of the final horn, the Dons emerged victorious with a 3-1 win, maintaining their number one seed among their Ocean division rivals and sustaining their undefeated league record.
Last year, the Dons had failed to qualify for the Central Coastal Section (CCS) playoffs and ended with a losing record, prompting them to drop from the Bay to the Ocean division. This season, the Dons (8-2-1) have only had two losses out of their eleven games so far into the season, including a 5-0 league record.
The team will look to extend their league win-streak to six in an away game against Jefferson at 4:00 P.M.
