The long-awaited permanent flood solution began construction on July 13.
Reflecting on the failures of the old drainage system, foreman Lucas Morgan says, “The water couldn’t drain fast enough, and there was too much water in too little of an area.” Larger pipes that are 24 inches in diameter are being installed to address this issue.
Asphalt berms will be constructed in the parking lot to divert the flow of water. “We’re putting two asphalt berms, or big speed bumps, one five feet wide and the other ten feet wide. The idea is that instead of going down the driveway, the water would run along the speed bump, which would be three or four inches high at its peak, and go down the drain.”
The project is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 20.
