On April 29, Aragon’s GATE program organized a trip to the PACE Gallery in San Francisco to learn more about the advancements in art and science culture. Students played with interactive simulations of various surroundings with advanced technology and explored different works of art.
Senior Jared Mayerson, the Director of Logistics and Transportations of the GATE program, describes the technological advances of the PACE gallery. He says, “Within the exhibit, there was a tunnel with lights streaming all over the walls of the room and was lit in different colors. It could be connected by a cell phone and people could change the colors of the room. The room was also associated with sounds, and a lot of people were taking selfies in the room.”
Some students signed up for this field trip because it helped learn them more about their designated career path. Freshman Emily Xu explains how this field trip helped spark her interest in art, saying “I went to the GATE field trip because it was a fun way to make an experience in high school. Going on these field trips helps me learn materials I would never know in a classroom. Also, I went on this field trip because I was interested in art, and this gallery was an important inspiration for me by looking at other pieces of art. I was not well versed in technology, so this field trip helps me span horizons and open my eyes to different areas of art.”
Senior Parisa Kabiri describes her favorite moments of the field trip to PACE gallery. She says, “When you walk into the room there is a ginormous screen that covers the entire long wall, side to side and high ceiling to floor. On it is a digital aquarium or some kind of ocean environment, that has all different types of sea creatures swimming through it. Once we customized our fish, jellyfish, turtle, or whatever other animal, we scanned them with a scanner and two seconds later the animal that you colored on paper pops up on the big digital sea screen! It was amazing seeing your own work come to life and swim around with all the other creatures. That entire exhibit is an amazing way to incorporate technology into creativity.”
