The San Mateo Union High School District Board voted 4-1 to keep current start times at district schools at a board meeting on Thursday, March 23.
The board has been considering moving district school bell schedules to start school 30 minutes later than current start times for the past year. For Aragon, this would have meant starting school at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 3:45 p.m. on a normal school day.
The board’s decision came after the board took public comments from students, parents and teachers, and reviewed a survey regarding the proposal that was sent out to families and students as well as staff.
According to an email sent to the Aragon Global List from Assistant Principal Lisa Warnke, “The public comment last night from families and students was all a strong ‘no’ vote.”
Along with keeping the current start time schedule, the board will be exploring options for classes outside of the seven-period schedule, and for moving early dismissal time (such as Aragon’s early release on Friday afternoon) to a late morning start, according to the board’s presentation.
