The Aragon track and field team traveled to San Mateo High School on Apri 15 to compete in the seventh annual Bearcat Invitational.
The Dons impressed in several events, coming away with multiple medals in both the boys and girls side of the events. The boy’s 4×100 meter relay team, consisting of seniors David Prager, Alex Tenorio, Siua Tongamoa and junior Dhruv Singhania placed second with a time of 44.57 seconds, 0.06 seconds short of Central Catholic’s first-place finish.
“That was actually really stressful because [freshman Francisco Sanchez, who normally competes on the team] pulled his hamstring about a few minutes before we started, [so we] needed to bring Dhruv in,” says Prager. “We were all a bit worked up about it, but we still had good exchanges and beat everyone in our heat by a wide margin. If we did not have the hiccup before the race, we probably would have won overall.”
Additionally, Prager placed second in the 100 meter dash and first in the 200 meter dash.
“I like the Bearcat Invite a lot, as it’s one of the few meets where a lot of us can run,” Prager says. “I will say that Bearcat is one of the less competitive meets so it doesn’t mean as much to me as like [the Central Coast Section] Top 8.”
Sophomore Ben Nembhard finished second in the shot put, with a throw of over 39 feet.
The girls also impressed, with their 4×400 meter relay team of juniors Lydia Villa and Shweta Ashokraj and sophomores Emma Madgic and Beata Gold finishing first in the event.
Additionally, Madgic placed first in the 800 meter run while Ashokraj finished third in the 400 meter dash. Senior Margot Bellon and Gold also finished second and third, respectively, in the 1600 meter run.
The Lady Dons also excelled in field events, with junior Juliet Bost finishing first in the pole vault and junior Vanessa Somoza finished second in the high jump.
Overall, the Dons performed well at this meet, despite it not being as big of an event as their others. They hope to bring over their success on Thursday, April 20th for their fourth league meet against Westmoor.
