This editorial represents the unanimous opinion of all 15 editors
The Aragon Outlook is a publication run by students for the school community. Our staffers and editors create and approve the content of every issue, striving to cover events in the most objective and truthful way possible. We want to represent diversity, but that means that unpopular opinions will be published and that not all events will be covered in the most positive light; often, the truth is not the most ideal.
We want to be held up to the standards of professional publications and we do our best in our mission to produce high-quality content. Understanding this, we hope that students, teachers and administration alike assume our best intent and recognize our efforts to cover events fairly and accurately.
However, there are times where we may make mistakes or the wrong decision. Perhaps we covered an event unfairly, introduced bias in some way, misspelled a name or even misquoted a source. Although we are not trying to justify ourselves, we believe that as student journalists, we should be granted the opportunity to learn and grow from our oversights. Thus, we both appreciate and encourage constructive criticism toward our publication.
Diplomatic discourse is something that should be encouraged both within and outside of school. Currently, on the national scene, communication between the two political parties seems to have collapsed. Rather than seeing politicians critiquing policy or collaborating to create better legislation, we often see politicians personally attacking each other in hopes of political gain. As future voting citizens of our country, we therefore need to foster an environment of diplomacy where we can both listen and respond.
If there are any errors or areas of concern about The Outlook, we ask you to let us know. We cannot improve our publication if we aren’t aware of what mistakes we have made. Letters to the editor, comments on our website, emails to aragonoutlook@gmail.com, verbal communication and any other form of constructive criticism is very much appreciated. All feedback will be taken into consideration, and we will work to correct errors in a timely manner.
Thank you for your support of our publication,
