Although she’s only been playing softball for a few years, freshman Megan Grant verbally committed to play softball for University of California, Los Angeles with a full scholarship. The Grant family is well-known for their athleticism at Aragon, as Grant and her two older brothers, 2016 graduate Devin Grant and senior Camron Grant, are all tri-sport athletes.
“Our family goal is to always be the female and male athlete of the year and always compete,” Megan Grant said. “It’s something my parents wanted, and we’re all going to deliver.”
Even though Grant is the youngest of her family, she feels confident about her success as a player.
“I always think I’m better than both of my brothers, and that I’m better then them at all three sports,” Megan Grant said. “It’s just the mindset I have.”
Megan Grant plans to play a total of three sports at Aragon: volleyball, basketball and softball. This year, she played on the freshman volleyball team as a middle blocker, where her aggressive playing and her positive sense of humor helped bring the team to 19-4 record overall and 11-2 in the Peninsula Athletic League.
“She is a great person to be around and always hyped up the team by being funny,” said freshman setter Arissa Low.
During volleyball practices and games, exuberant shouts of “Megan G” can be heard when Megan Grant gets a kill. At the end of the season, she was awarded Most Improved Player, as her fresh start turned into a season of skilled hitting and blocking.
“Megan is hardworking,” said freshman volleyball coach Diean Hala’ufia. “Especially being new to volleyball, she worked hard at getting better.”
Although Grant competes in a multitude of sports, her favorite is softball.
“I love the game, and it’s something I plan on playing it when I go to college. I find it fun and life-changing,” Megan Grant said.
Megan began practicing baseball at age five with her father and brothers at home. Currently, she plays shortstop on the 16U Gold West Bay Warriors team.
“I joined the travel ball team, West Bay Warriors, and everything just went up from there,” Megan Grant said about her transition from baseball to softball.

Her family is extremely proud of her accomplishments and effort, especially her brother Camron Grant.
“I am absolutely proud of Megan. She works hard and deserves everything she has accomplished,” Camron Grant said.
Megan Grant’s coaches share the same admiration: “She is a fierce competitor on the court; I think this is why coaches will enjoy coaching her.” Hala’ufia said. “Off the court, she’s pretty easy going and fun to be around.”
“Playing sports is what I do; it’s a natural thing. I’ve always loved playing basketball, volleyball and softball,” Megan Grant said. “It’s just my thing.”
