On Dec. 2, the Aragon choirs and orchestras performed as a part of the Aragon music program’s Winter Concert series.
“Every semester, we have a final concert [that] showcases all our music classes,” said Choir and Orchestra Director John Chen. “This also counts as the final exam for music students, because all these classes are performing classes.”
The concert featured Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, Chamber Singers, String Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. Multiple student-led groups performed as well, including Treble with Angels, September and Group Name acapella groups.
“I’m excited to see each other’s performances, because we don’t get to always see the other ensembles perform,” said junior Mia Weinberger. “It’s nice to see everybody come together and show off what we’ve been working on all semester.”
Chamber Orchestra and Choir performed some of the same pieces on their tour this week in Hawaii, highlighted by playing alongside a military band at the 81st Pearl Harbor Anniversary in Honolulu.

The concert took place in the Aragon Theatre. There were no tickets; instead the Music Boosters accepted donations and sold merchandise, including water bottles and picnic blankets.
Several classic Christmas songs, including “All I want for Christmas is You” and “Do You Hear What I Hear?” were played at the concert. In addition, several spiritual songs were played, such as “In Dat Great Gittin’ Up Mornin’” and “Child of God.” Group Name sang “Take Me Home” by Pentatonix, September sang “Falling in Love With You” by Elvis Presley and Treble with Angels performed a mashup of “7 Rings” by Ariana Grande and “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyoncé. Chamber Orchestra closed the first act with “Waltz of the Flowers,” from the Nutcracker Suite alongside Ballet de Aragon. The concert finished with “Aloha O’e,” with hula taught by Rachel Leota.
Many of the performers were seniors, making this their last winter concert at Aragon.
“I feel a little jittery that it ended, and I’m like, wow, that was my last winter concert,” said senior Deidre Doyle. “But I think it went really well, so I’m really happy.”
Upcoming Aragon music performances include the Band Concert on Dec. 9 and Jazz Concert on Dec. 16.
