Being a successful athlete requires more than just athleticism and hard work. It also involves following routines that help improve performance and maintain physical and mental health. Athletes have unique routines that suit their specific needs and preferences.
Athletes tend to be less conscientious about their nutrition after games.
“I’ve eaten up to eight chimichangas in one sitting,” said sophomore JV first baseman and left-handed pitcher Mason Miller.
After games, athletes need to replenish their macros and nutrients. For many Aragon athletes, this means having a post-game meal that is rich in carbs and protein. Some athletes prefer to eat at home with family, while others grab a bite with their teammates.
“I usually go to Fire Wings or McDonald’s downtown with a couple of teammates after a win,” said junior right handed pitcher Ben Strickley.
After a game, locker rooms can be emotionally charged places filled with high highs and low lows. Following a victory, the energy in the locker room is usually electric, with players hugging, high-fiving and congratulating each other on a job well done. The excitement can be palpable as players relive key moments of the game and celebrate their hard work and dedication.
“After wins, we usually play music in the locker room,” Miller said. “‘Who I Smoke’ by Yungeen Ace is a must after a big win. Music helps us set a tone in the locker room after wins.”

After a loss, the mood can be somber and tense.
“After a blowout loss, there is obviously a greater reaction, but again, any loss is just disappointing,” said sophomore varsity third baseman Jordan Kiaaina. “In the locker room, people have different types of reactions; some [of us] are more vocal and others are just completely silent.”
No matter the outcome of a game, one thing that doesn’t change is the recovery process.
“I love to stretch and foam roll after games,” said junior boys varsity volleyball starting libero James Diaz. “[They’re] both great for recovery and keep me fresh for upcoming practices and games.”
Routines before and after games promote healthy behaviors in athletes, as well as team bonding. Many Aragon athletes understand the benefits of post-game routines, whether it’s through recovery, meals or indulgences. Each athlete has their unique way of promoting physical and mental health. By following their own post-game routines, athletes can optimize their performance and achieve their goals.
