On Dec. 13, Aragon’s Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble performed their annual winter concert from 7-9 p.m. in the Aragon Theater.
The bands performed 15 different pieces, including “Black Forest Overture” and “Sea Songs.“ A brass quintet also played in the lobby before the start of the concert.
Audience member GraceAnn Stewart enjoyed the concert.
“I am just overwhelmed,” Stewart said. “This was an incredible [and] very well-mannered group of kids, [and] even when they had to come back and sit in the audience, they were not disruptive.”
Students began working on their music early in the semester, fine-tuning and improving their performances.
“I was kind of sad that the concert was over because it felt really short,” said sophomore and Wind Ensemble flautist Isabelle Liu. “I really wanted to play our pieces well … for our audience. And I was too focused on that aspect that I didn’t really enjoy being at the concert in the moment.”
Some students felt there was room for improvement, but remained happy with their overall performance.
“I [play] one of the deepest instruments, so that means I have to play out louder,” said sophomore and Symphonic Band bass clarinetist Vida Montoya-Garcia. “[I’m proud] for playing out loud and putting myself out there because I’m shy when it comes to my instrument and my skills.”
Wind Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra concluded the concert with their traditional performance of “Sleigh Ride.”
“[It was] just the feeling of being engulfed into some sort of environment where I was not in that chair,” Stewart said. “[This] out-of-body moment where the music was so intense that I really felt it, and I loved it.”
Aragon’s Jazz Band will perform the last concert in the Winter Concert series on Dec. 20.
