Track and Field
Senior Miles Rokala, who runs the 3200, 1600, and 800-meter races, along with the 4×800 and 4×400 relays, has been a standout member of the track team for the past four years.
“Miles is a fighter from the very beginning,” said Alverado. “He’s extremely talented in distance running and he’s a great team leader.”
Swimming
Senior Ava Goh is the swim athlete of the month after placing first at CCS in diving.
“Ava’s the first ever diver to win CCS from Aragon,” said assistant coach Justin Sell. “She’s also the first ever diver to win CCS from our entire school district”.
Goh will go on to represent Aragon at the state championships.
Badminton
The badminton athletes of the month are junior Chin-ray Kong and senior Melody Liu. Doubles partners Kong and Liu secured the team’s first-place league finish after clinching a key win over Carlmont. Their victory helped the team complete its first undefeated season in thirteen years. “Chin-ray and Melody are both great team leaders and they just help out everywhere,” said assistant coach Martin Chen.
Softball
Sophomore Taylor Workman is the softball athlete of the month.
“She’s a great team leader and she just has such a deep love for the game,” said head coach Liz Roscoe. “You see her playing out there and she’s just fun to watch.”
Workman currently has the second highest batting average in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division at .533.
Boys Lacrosse
The boys lacrosse athlete of the month is senior Matthew Auyeung. Auyeung has been a standout player this season, leading the team in goals and consistently delivering high-impact performances on the field.
Baseball
Senior Mason Miller currently leads all of the PAL Ocean division with the lowest earned run average at 1.44. Miller commands games with his pace, accuracy on the mound, and ability to put pressure on batters by keeping his pitches down.
“Mason is a great dugout guy, he’s a glue guy,” said teammate Dalton Kane. “Mason is a competitor and you can just tell he really cares about being out there.”
Mason has unsuspectingly emerged as the Dons’ ace pitcher this year, as he has quietly put together a dominant season on the mound.
Boys Volleyball
Junior Santi Smirnoff is the boys volleyball athlete of the month. Smirnoff leads the team in kills per set, aces per set, serving aces, and assists.
“He brings the energy for our team and leads us really well,” said teammate Isaac Nagao. “He’s a very smart player and he’s very meticulous with how he plays, he’s a very intelligent player.”
Smirnoff has been on the varsity squad since his freshman year, and now as a captain he brings energy, intensity and intelligence to the court at all times.
Girls Lacrosse
Sophomore Elena Adractas is the girls lacrosse athlete of the month. Adractas leads the team in goals as just a sophomore.
“She runs the point, there are a few girls who really take charge and are good decision makers,” said head coach Ash Parham. “She’s very accurate in her shots, she’s a very skilled player.”
Elena mixes it up between playing middie and attack. In both positions she leads the Aragon offense with her great decision-making and precision shooting.
Golf
Senior Conor Reidy is the boys golf athlete of the month. His stellar play allowed him to advance to the second round of the PAL playoffs where he fell just short of moving on. Reidy is a natural athlete who stood out on the football field last fall.
“He’s really calm, the pressure doesn’t get to him,” said head coach Jim Daniel. “He always keeps his composure.”
From the gridiron to the golf course, Reidy’s unflappable demeanor paired with his strength and pure athleticism has made him a dominant athlete.
Boys Tennis
Junior Darrin O’Brien is the athlete of the month for May.
“Darrin won all twelve matches he played in league play only giving up one set out of all those matches,” said head coach David Owdom. “He also won his match 6-0,6-0 in the CCS first round against Mitty. His work ethic at practice and his determination as a player make him well deserving of this honor.”
