Aragon baseball player Andre Perkins commits to Chico State

On Nov. 18, senior Andre Perkins, a member of Aragon’s varsity baseball team, signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Chico State University. Perkins signed the letter during a celebration at lunch in the student lunch room with his parents, trainer and teammates in attendance. Perkins is the first Aragon athlete to sign a letter of intent this year.

“Getting the news was a little nerve-wracking,” says Perkins. “It was crazy. All of this hard work was finally paying off, and it was really exciting.”

Perkins first visited Chico State on Oct. 18 for the prospect camp and visited again two weeks ago with his mother.

Perkins adds, “Once I got there I felt comfortable, and like this was the place for me. They really liked me and I really liked them, so Chico felt like a great fit for me.”

Also in attendance was Perkins’s personal trainer, Josh Courage. Courage, who played two years of independent minor league baseball, runs a San Mateo training facility, which Perkins and some of his teammates attend.

Before making the decision to attend Chico, Perkins talked with multiple influential people in his life, including Courage, his parents, and his summer team coach.

“My parents always tell me that they support me in whatever I do, so that made it easier to make the right decision,” says Perkins.

Perkins concludes, “I’m really excited to play baseball and experience the college life. Of course I want to play baseball in college and then maybe take it to the next level after that.”
